Your First Visit
From the minute you walk through our front door you will realize what everyone is always telling us, “we are not your typical doctor’s office.” You may find Truman poking out from behind the front desk. There may be fresh baked goods with tea or hot cocoa. Or you may just find us in fits of uncontrollable laughter.
On a first visit you will be responsible for the “dreaded” paperwork. We encourage you to download the paperwork from our website and complete it before you arrive in the office. We suggest that you allow yourself 45 minutes to one hour for your first visit. Your visit will begin with a consultation with Dr. Colleen. You can tell her what has brought you to the office, whether it be a pain or just the desire to maintain your optimum level of wellness.
Once Dr. Colleen has taken a full history, she will obtain more extensive information by utilizing the fully computerized Insight Millennium Subluxation Station. The Insight Station is a completely objective and painless way to:
- Detect areas of Nerve Disturbance
- Document and Monitor Your Results
- Deliver the Appropriate Chiropractic Care
Dr. Colleen will perform 2 quick scans to best detect and pinpoint abnormal function in the spine, which cannot be seen on x-rays:
- Surface Electromyography or SEMG scan. The SEMG Scan measures the electrical current of the muscles. As your muscles are controlled by nerves, any disturbance in the function of your nerves can create abnormal amounts of electrical flow to your muscles. The scan determines if muscles are pulling harder on certain parts of the spine. If there is muscle imbalance the muscles can become weaker or stronger, tighter or fatigued. Muscle balance is very important because the vertebrae in the spine are depending on the muscles to move properly.
- The Temperature Differences or Thermal Scan should show that your body temperature is the same on both the right and left sides of your spine. Since the blood vessels along your spine are controlled by the same part of the Central Nervous System that runs your organs and glands, these scans provide invaluable information regarding the autonomic system of blood vessels, glands and organs.
After the scans are complete, there may still be a need for more information, if this is the case Dr. Colleen will refer you to a nearby facility (or the facility of your choice) for x-rays.
Then in most cases it will be time for your first adjustment. In certain severe cases an adjustment may not be possible. If that is the case, alternatives such as ice, heat, ultrasound or gentle stretching may be used. As the first adjustment begins, Dr. Colleen will explain everything she is going to do before she does it. This helps set those who have never received a chiropractic adjustment at ease.
